Updating a domain
The following section describes how to update the data of an existing domain. The domain:update request is similiar to the domain:create request with the exception that for a domain:update the XML request is slightly different and most of the sections are optional. You only have to specify the name of the domain and the sections you want to update.
If you want to update your nameservers, you have to specify a complete set of new nameservers. The existing nameservers will be replaced by the new ones. If you do not specify any nameservers in your request, the existing ones will remain unchanged.
You can update only one of the four contacts, if you specify a contact you must however specify all the information for this contact.
Please note that for some top-levels domains you have to perform a domain:trade to update the organisational contact. If you try to change the organisational contact of such a domain by using the domain:update command, our API server will return an error.
To find out whether you have to perform a trade or not to change the organisational contact, simply send a tld:info request to the API Server and parse the element tld:tradeRequired of the result.
